WHAT TO EXPECT
Your first appointment at HORIZONS is usually a short consultation lasting approximately 30 minutes in which you will briefly describe the issue(s) you need to resolve. This first appointment is free of charge and enables you and the therapist to decide the methods best utilised to achieve maximum benefits for you in as few sessions as possible. There are no set lengths of treatment because everybody is different. You may need an appointment weekly or less frequently and the frequency can be varied as the therapy goes on.
Subsequent appointments will last about 50 minutes and will be charged at the current session rate. The majority of clients need no more than 5/6 sessions and often fewer than this. Progress is in any case reviewed at every consultation. Quit smoking is dealt with in one single session lasting approximately 90 minutes, sometimes slightly longer, (no initial 30 minute consultation is needed for this but there will be literary support and a telephone follow-up) and is charged at a different rate.
You will be encouraged to talk freely and will be asked questions. Your therapist will spend time between sessions considering your personal issues and writing specific therapy for your particular needs. At all times a strict code of ethics and complete confidentiality is adhered to. Hypnosis will only be tried if both you and the therapist consider it to be appropriate and you are ready for it. Often, the client discovers the solution to their problem simply by discussing it with the sympathetic therapist who will help them understand their situation from an objective viewpoint.
If hypnosis is considered appropriate, you will be asked to close your eyes and listen to the therapist's voice. The more relaxed you are, the easier you will find it to go into hypnosis, if that is what you want to do. There is no right or wrong way to respond. Each individual responds in the way that feels right for them and everyone’s experience of hypnosis is unique to them.
During hypnosis, some common feelings are deep breathing, drowsiness or alertness and an altered perception of time. You may also experience recollections and strong feelings from the past, or you may not feel different at all. However, you are usually aware of what is going on.
If in any level of your mind you decide not to go into hypnosis, you will not. The therapist will help you to understand why this conflict is occurring.
Hypnotherapy may not be suitable for everyone. However, if you really want to improve your self-awareness and your enjoyment of life, resolve any issues which may be limiting you, and if you have the courage and determination to face yourself, then why not give me a call at HORIZONS ?
