WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy is a therapy that uses hypnosis, a self-induced state of relaxation and concentration in which deeper parts of the mind become more accessible. It is a treatment that is based on the idea that the mind and body do not work in isolation. By altering the client’s level of awareness, the hypnotherapist aims to trigger the body's mental and physical self-healing processes that lie in the subconscious. It can also help people recall hidden thoughts or events from the past and release any repressed feelings associated with these.
The therapist talks to the client in a soothing voice and helps them to visualise relaxing situations. This enables the client to experience a state of very deep relaxation where they will still be aware of their surroundings but are very much more sensitive to positive suggestion. Unlike stage hypnosis where the hypnotist (this is NOT the same as a hypnotherapist) takes advantage of the audience’s encouragement of the volunteers to persuade them to behave in a way they would not ordinarily do, clients can be assured that there is absolutely no possibility during hypnotherapy of a client being encouraged or asked to do anything that goes against their own moral or ethical codes of behaviour. Hypnotherapy is purely for healing and improvement of the quality of life of the client.
When in the state of altered awareness, the client's subconscious can be 'reprogrammed' to deal with certain feelings in a different way and as such, hypnotherapy is not only very effective in the treatment of phobias, addictions, but it can also reduce stress and diminish pain.
